Ohhh... This community is almost dead, isn't it?

Perhaps I should attempt to get it rolling again... Balanced Records posted up a mix I did last summer on their podcast this week. I'm not sure if anyone cares, but if you do, here's the link: Fishead - Dubbed.

Dubstep blended with deep techno, and doses of the strange.... who the hell starts off a techno mix with a Xenakis record? Three tables, no edits... enjoy it.

A knife, a fork, a bottle and a cork
Being an unemployed work-shy dole-scrounging scumbag has given me more time to buy some records:

Cokane in my brain; Dillinger; 7" (Island)
Ca plane pour moi; Plastic Bertrand; 7" (Sire)
Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!; Nick Cave & Bad Seeds; 7" (Mute)
Big e power; Shop Assistants; 7" (Avalanche)
Tri repetae; Autechre; LP (Warp)
MokorokotoShipbuilding; Robert Wyatt; 7" (Rough Trade) -- with a nice gatefold sleeve with that Stanley Spencer painting.

Nick Cave seems to really like embossed sleeves nowadays.

On the way home from work
Exit planet dust LP: Chemical Brothers (Junior Boy's Own)
Conquest/It's my fault for being famous 7": The White Stripes (XL)
The piano/Heaven 7": PJ Harvey (Island)
We're all going to die 7" Malcolm Middleton (Full Time Hobby)
A brighter beat/Point of light ditto.

Chemical Brothers cos I can't find my old taped copy, so I might as well do the decent thing and fork out the wonga.
Middelton is the geezer out of the late Arab Strap, BTW.

virgin megastore, union square, nyc
i stopped in after work today to see if they'd gotten copies of Nine Inch Nails' Y34RZ3R0R3M1X3D yet, but they hadn't. in lieu, i picked up:

Nine Inch Nails - Year Zero 2LP
The Pogues - Fairy Tale of New York / The Battle March Medley 7"

fairy tale of new york is my all time favorite christmas song, and i promised myself at this time last year that this christmas i'd blast it out the window of my brooklyn apartment. now that i have a brooklyn apartment, it seemed completely appropriate, and playing it on vinyl would be so much more satisfying than playing the mp3. now i just have to get some turntables before christmas (my old ones are still in florida and are, well, old).

i also got stunt rock's REGRET Volume 3 in the mail since last we spoke.

Bomb The Bass - Beat Dis 12"
Bomb The Bass - Beat Dis remix 12"
the original and the remixes... both on Mister-Ron/Rhythm King. I've got multiple copies of the domestic presses, but never actually laid my hands on the imports. Awesome track - and I gain a couple of remixes that I've never heard before (Gangster Boogie Inc remix!)...

Duran Duran - Girls On Film 12"
It was free... it plays... now I just need to see if it'll mix with Girls On Dub from the Secret Mixes Fixes series.

Pain Teens - Destroy Me, Lover LP
There's a track on this called Sexual Anorexia... what more could you ask for in a record?

Isabelle Adjani - untitled LP
When I was a kid I found a copy of the movie tie-in novel for Werner Herzog's Nosferatu. I spent over a decade trying to actually see the film. Since those early days I've always had a weak spot for Adjani. I haven't even listened to this... I picked it up because it just seemed like something I needed to own. Gainsbourg wrote or co-wrote every single track, so maybe it's actually decent... who knows.

Ra - Ev.panic redone 12" (picture disc)
I never met Jay Jedlicka, but his passing affected a lot of people that I know. This record is dedicated to his memory. Too many people go away while they're still young... some of them are people I know... some are good friends of good friends... pour some out for those who are no longer with us - and share some with those who are still hear... Wei/Optic, Graham/Epidose, Planetsize...

Sonic Youth - Disappearer 12" (white label)
Sonic Youth - Goo interview promo flexi 7"
Found these on a shelf... the flexi 7" was tucked inside the sleeve for the 12". Most (if not all) of the material shows up on the Deluxe Goo box... but... the flexi 7" is pretty cool... and white labels are worth 'l337 points in the record collecting world.

Dead Can Dance - Within The Realm Of A Dying Sun LP
I simply had to have Dawn Of The Iconoclast on vinyl. There was no way around it.

Legendary Pink Dots - Faces In The Fire LP
Legendary Pink Dots - The Tower LP (Terminal Kaleidoscope pressing)
These have been sitting in the back room at work for months. I thought it was time they finally went to a good home. I've already got the In Phaze pressing of The Tower - but it's not exactly in fantastic shape... so now I can listen to a better sounding Black Zone.

Some days...
... you just can't win...

I'm at work on Friday and I spot somebody flipping through the bins. They pull out a picture disc, look at it, put it back... so I walk over a while later and browse - to satisfy my curiosity. It's a live bootleg of a Cure show from the '84 tour (Bologna 5/20 - to be exact)... it's littered with songs I know, but lists a track called Again And Again. I decide that it's either a live version of Doubt (from the Faith album) or a version of Forever... and because pretty much every version of Forever is improvised... well... I set it aside.

I buy today, bring it home tonight and listen to it just now... sure enough... it is a version of Forever... but it seems strangely familiar... as the record finishes I pull out my 2LP bootleg of the Milan show recorded the next night and... well... the tracklisting is exactly the same as the second disc from the Milan concert... and... I'll be damned so is the matrix number.

I suppose it's still some sort of collector's item... too bad I already had a different pressing from the same plates... but now I wonder where/when it was all really recorded.

The Cure - Live in Bologna 05/20/84??? (picture disc)
